Florida Cop Accused of Smuggling Cocaine
A previous internal affairs lieutenant for the Miami-Dade Police Department, Ralph Mata, 45, was arrested in Miami Gardens, Fl. for allegedly working with a drug trafficking cartel. He allegedly helped them obtain guns, and even plotted a murder. Ironically, Mata worked for a division that investigated wrongdoing by officers.
According to a criminal complaint in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey, Mata is accused of using his status as a police officer to help drug traffickers in exchange for gifts and money.

The complaint also alleges Mata arranging to pay to murder rival drug dealers. Two assassins were to pretend they were police officers so they could pull over their targets in order to shoot them.
Federal prosecutors said, “ultimately the (organization) decided not to move forward with the murder plot, but Mata still received payment for setting up the meeting.”
Mata also allegedly used his police badge to carry weapons in his carry-on luggage from Miami to the Dominican Republic to give to the drug organization he worked with.
Mata faces charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine, aiding and abetting a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, and engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
